Merchants who are enabled may accept tips while processing a payment on their Poynt Smart Terminal. With the dual-screen Poynt setup, the customer is empowered to select their own tip amount and receipt on the customer screen.
In this article, we’ll cover the following topics:
- Enable Tips
- Customize the Tip Amount Displayed
- Offer a Printed Receipt with a Tip Line
- Employee: Adjust Tips at End of Shift
- Manager: Adjust Tips at End of Night
To accept tips on the Poynt Smart Terminal, your payment processor must have tips enabled for you on their systems. Restaurant merchants by default are onboarded with tips enabled, but other merchant types may need to opt-in. Please reach out to your reseller organization with assistance with this.
If tips are enabled on your account, an Ask for Tips toggle will appear at Poynt.net/business under Manage Store.
In addition to the “Ask for Tips” toggle, tips can be further customized at Poynt.net/business under Manage Store. Here you can:
- Select whether prompted amounts are displayed in dollars ($) or percent of sale (%)
- Select three prompted dollar amounts or percentage amounts to display
Step 1: Swipe card
Step 2: Select Skip Tip
Step 3: Tap Receipt tab
Step 4: Allow customer to add in a tip and sign.
Note: These tips will need to be added in manually under Settlements app prior to settling the batch.
Employees may only view the transactions they process on the Poynt Smart Terminal. They can adjust tips using the Settlements app at the end of their shift. If the customer entered their tip on the Poynt Smart Terminal, the tips will automatically be added. If any adjustments are necessary, they will need to be adjusted prior to settling the batch.
Managers may review all of the transactions processed on their Poynt Smart Terminal. If applicable, you may adjust tips in the Transactions sections of the Settlements app prior to settling the batch.
